The String Cutter

I have not yet knelt
Before the King of Kings
To bring my heart
That is full of strings.

For He cuts the strings with a knife
That’s His Word
The Word of Life!

A string pulls me here, and pulls me there
Leading me right into a snare.

I fight to bow
My neck is stiff
These hypnotic strings create a rift.

Then by His Spirit I surrender
And know His gifts
So warm and tender.

I exchange the strings of distraction
For cords that bring true satisfaction,
For the cords of His kindness,
Leading me out of sin and blindness.

And these are the cords that remind us
A Love so strong will gladly bind us.

I’ve exchanged my strings for cords.

“I taught Ephraim to walk,
Taking them by their arms;
But they did not know that I healed them. I drew them with gentle cords,
With bands of love,
And I was to them as those who take the yoke from their neck.
I stooped and fed them.”

~ Hosea 11:3-4
